Abstract

The abstract should focus on the main contributions of the paper. It should be a maximum of 100 words and be written in one paragraph. Remember that the abstract will also be used in the NIME archive, and should not contain any citations or special characters. It is good to write it so that it is understandable even for non-experts.

Keywords

Should be 3-5 keywords that summarize the content of the article. Should be separated with a comma.

Introduction

The introduction should introduce the main objective of the paper. It is also good to explicitly state the field(s) that the paper belongs to, and the methods used. NIME is a highly multidisciplinary community, spanning the arts and humanities, social and natural sciences, and engineering. The rest of the paper can be organized in whatever way makes sense for the author(s).

Multimedia content

The nice thing about the new template is that it is media-rich. Please use the possibility to include new material that supports the argument of the paper. However, you should not add media that is not explicitly referenced in the text.

Images

Images can be added. If the figure includes text, please adjust the text size so that it is easy to read.

All figures need a caption!

All figures need to have a caption.

Audio

Audio files can be uploaded or embedded from other sources.

This is an uploaded audio file.

All audio files should have a caption, and their content should be clearly described in the text.

Videos

Video files can also be uploaded or embedded.

This is a test video of an uploaded video.

All video files need to have a caption and referenced in the text.

Other formatting

There are several other ways of formatting the text in the document.

Code

It is great to include code to explain how you did things.

for i in *.pdf; do name=`echo $i | cut -d'.' -f1`; pdftotext "$i" "${name}.txt"; done

However, do not include long code listings. Then it is better to point to a code repository.

Quotes

Don’t overdo them, but if you want to quote other people’s work, there is a quote function:

Quotes should be formatted as quotes

Equations

Equations can also be written:

ixisum_ix^i=2

More complex equations should probably be imported from LaTeX.

Tables

Tables can be used to present material. For more complex tables, they need to be added as a figure instead.

References

References can be added in many different ways. A reference list will be automagically created at the end of the document using APA style formatting. (Erdem & Jensenius, 2020).

Backmatter

This section is not counted as part of the word limit of the document. It contains sections that explain more about the content of the paper.

Acknowledgments

Here you can write thank you to people, funding institutions, etc.

Author contributions

Please specify what the different authors of the paper have contributed. Example:

AA came up with the idea of the study and did most of the writing. NN performed the experiment and helped with the analysis. OO wrote one section of the paper. All authors approve of the final document.

Ethical statement

Mention any ethical reflections that have been made, including references to evaluations done by ethics boards, if relevant. Example:

The experiment received approval from the ethics board of the University, approval number #9427. All people that have been depicted in photographs have given their written consent.

Gus Xia:

Are paper bidding, anonymous reviews, and review management also existing features of pubpub?

Alexander Refsum Jensenius:

Does this code work on all platforms?

Alexander Refsum Jensenius:

It is also possible to comment on a particular part of a document.

Gus Xia:

great

Alexander Refsum Jensenius:

This is just to test how it works to comment on a document. This could possibly used to add Peer Commentaries on a paper.

Alexander Refsum Jensenius:

I can even add a reply to the comment.
